OCKs Beware
I'm currently in the line for FOB Perth. My friend is an OCK and so she and I paid the $145 for Early Entry. We have been informed that Optus has run a comp ("Yes Sessions") and given 400 free tickets to under 18 year olds with their network to have a Q&A and early entry - before those of us who have paid fuckloads for EE. 400 people in front of us. If your city had leftover tickets, this fuckery may happen to you. We've talked to the venue and their hands are tied. We've called Frontier and a rep said that he'd "look into it." There are possibly 20 OCKs absolute max in total who have paid double the price of normal tickets versus 400 who get it free. Nevermind that OCKs have to pay to even be a member. Some OCKs aren't here yet, but are going to be pissed.

it's not because they had leftover tickets. the competition has been arranged months ahead, it's been up on the optus site since the dates were announced.

and no, if you haven't realised, EE is at 6:15 and the optus competition starts at 6:30 and ends at 7:15. DOORS OPEN AT 7:15.

We told them that, showed them the documentation, but it's not happening. They have said that Optus winners have priority over us and are not letting us in first.

wha?

oh jesus christ i can see something different and crazy happening in each city. ugh this tour.

As far as I know, the yes sessions event goes right up until 7:15, doors time. i think ock EE gets in to the gig hall before those kids get in - they cant be hosting the yes sessions event IN the main arena.

also, i could point out the insanity and unfairness of anyone - even OCKs - being able to BUY early entry when it was meant to be something that 20 or so lucky OCKs WON as part of their membership.. but we've done that to death.

rest easy, i am pretty sure you'll get in before the optus kids, theyll be off optusing while you get your barrier spot.

As I said in the comment above, they're not doing it that way. They're letting optus people in the venue/pit and doing the Q&A there (for some reason??), THEN letting OCKs in, then GA. Venue being lazy?Maybe. Pressure from Presenters? Definitely.
cookiedough From: cookiedough Date: February 14th, 2009 10:19 am (UTC) (www)
look, i know venues. they're always fail. they wont even know what the actual deal is til the tour production people arrive, which they havent. theyre just saying at the moment what they think is right.

EE meets at 6:15.
optus event goes 6:30 til doors.

unless they do the optus event on the stage with the kids hanging on the barrier, EE will get to the barrier first. if they do do the optus event in the main hall, EE will get to witness it and be a part of it, seeing as they're meant to be in on the barrier at least half an hour before doors.

i'll be very shocked if youre not just fine.
lady_salsa From: lady_salsa Date: February 14th, 2009 10:26 am (UTC) (www)
Maybe that's what's supposed to happen, but they're telling us that we're being let in after optus people. The impression they're giving us is that q&a is in the main hall. I hope that the production peeps straighten it out, but as it stands we're going in after.
cookiedough From: cookiedough Date: February 14th, 2009 10:32 am (UTC) (www)
chill and ask to speak to someone in tour production tomorrow.

i mean even though i dont agree with it, people did pay for EE, and theyve gotta get the ppl who paid in before like .. at least 15 mins before the doors are opened or they can pretty much be like, we did not get what we paid for. they have a legal obligation to provide the service that they sold.
From: ohhaithare Date: February 14th, 2009 10:22 am (UTC) (www)
wow, they gave away 400 for free?
idk there was that many, but I know people who have been giving away their yes sessions coz they didn't want it,
which sux for OCKs I guess coz they paid so much for it..
cookiedough From: cookiedough Date: February 14th, 2009 10:25 am (UTC) (www)
i think it might be 400 for the whole tour, not each show.. but im really not sure.
From: ohhaithare Date: February 14th, 2009 10:26 am (UTC) (www)
that would probably make more sense I guess, coz that would be an insane amount of kids for a Q & A session or w/e
lady_salsa From: lady_salsa Date: February 14th, 2009 10:33 am (UTC) (www)
that's probably true, but we're still pissed that for the time being, we're being screwed.
From: ohhaithare Date: February 14th, 2009 10:34 am (UTC) (www)
yeah, I would be pissed if I was you too,
coz youse paid more for EE and its supposed to be more ~exlusive or whatever, so you wouldnt really be getting what you paid for.

is there many people at challenge now?
lady_salsa From: lady_salsa Date: February 14th, 2009 10:43 am (UTC) (www)
If we don't get in first we're probably going to ask for our money back, or at least the difference between EE and GA because it's misleading.
There's probably max 15 here.
lady_salsa From: lady_salsa Date: February 14th, 2009 10:30 am (UTC) (www)
I hope that's the case. I'm just relaying what the event people have been saying to us on our end.
complications_g From: complications_g Date: February 14th, 2009 10:33 am (UTC) (www)
Are there many people there for the Perth show already?

Me and my friend are going tomorrow for about 9-ish.
lady_salsa From: lady_salsa Date: February 14th, 2009 10:38 am (UTC) (www)
Probably <15? mostly the over eighteens- we now see why there are very little minors- they've mostly all won the EE.
complications_g From: complications_g Date: February 14th, 2009 10:41 am (UTC) (www)
Hm. Do you think it'll get much busier before tomorrow? Do many people do the overnight thing? [Sorry, I just really don't go to many concerts. ;)]
lady_salsa From: lady_salsa Date: February 14th, 2009 10:45 am (UTC) (www)
We estimate maybe 15-20 more by that time?
complications_g From: complications_g Date: February 14th, 2009 10:47 am (UTC) (www)
Okay, thanks. :)
gaptooth From: gaptooth Date: February 14th, 2009 10:44 am (UTC) (www)
Who told you the optus people get in first? the ticket holders or the people at challenge stadium?

also can u get your tickets from the box office yet?
lady_salsa From: lady_salsa Date: February 14th, 2009 10:52 am (UTC) (www)
Both Challenge and the Frontier rep who we were told to contact if we had line issues. We can't get out tickets until tomorrow arvo.
gaptooth From: gaptooth Date: February 14th, 2009 11:02 am (UTC) (www)
I was aware of the of the optus yes sessions but thought only 20 or so people were selected per state? Is there a Yes sessions area open yet?

Im concerned as on the website they claim yes session winners get in first?
lady_salsa From: lady_salsa Date: February 14th, 2009 12:16 pm (UTC) (www)
That's what is concerning us, too. As OCKs paying for EE, we expect that to mean 'earlier than everyone else,' not, 'kind of early but behind these people so may as well have just saved all your money.'

If they only picked 20 per state, or 20 per show then that doesn't add up to 400, though. I'm hoping that Challenge got some wrong info and it's only some percentage of 400 (of whom we will hopefully be let in in front).

I linked to this post in sunshine_corps. Thanks for letting us know, and please keep us posted!
lady_salsa From: lady_salsa Date: February 14th, 2009 11:46 am (UTC) (www)
It's unlikely that we'll get any news until tomorrow - probably when the tour production team is here. Thanks for the pimpage.
jedi_iwakura From: jedi_iwakura Date: February 14th, 2009 02:36 pm (UTC) (www)
In line with keeping us posted on sunshine_corps would it be a bit much to ask for you and everyone else you might know going to the show to write us up entries on what the hell has been going on with these shows? This is a big clusterfuck and I'm going to be compiling something to be passing around on sites like AP.net and others like it, but as I'm not there first hand it's kind of hard to keep track of all the different ways you guys are getting jilted.

I'm sorry this is shit and it's happening to you guys. I'm so fucking sorry. :C
From: (Anonymous) Date: February 15th, 2009 12:34 am (UTC) (www)
What I hope is happening is that they and we have just been given some false info, and we're just all overreacting and freaking out for no reason. I'm hoping it all sorts out in the end, but in the meantime it's kind of anxiety-inducing :/
lady_salsa From: lady_salsa Date: February 15th, 2009 12:40 am (UTC) (www)
That was me sorry. Stupid anon sign out
From: girds Date: February 15th, 2009 01:39 pm (UTC) (www)
Dude, that is fucked. I'm gonna be pissed if that happens at brisbane because I already don't have ee so I'll be waiting there at the front all day anyway, I don't want 400 more people in front of me. >:[ anyway, how was the show? :)
lady_salsa From: lady_salsa Date: February 16th, 2009 06:00 am (UTC) (www)
The show itself was great as expected, but there were actually hundreds of Optus people. EE people were taken in after Optus Q&A finished, and they cleared some of the barrier for us - at the very side (perhaps not worth my US$145). By the time it was over we'd managed to edge our way almost to the centre of the barrier (over 4 metres distance, quite impressive imho), but I digress. The main issue was that there were people <10-years-old at the front and in the mosh, and lots of >18s who were furious at the situation (having camped out and not even had the comp available to them - because adults apparently can't be FOB fans now, and being forced to watch 400 people jump the line in front of them) were about to be let in and were set on getting to the front, 7-yr-olds be damned. Most of the younger ones were lifted out by the time Hey Monday were over, thank Christ. Apparently they had Optus kids line up next to the camped-out people, and I've been told that there was a lot of tension and heckling between the two groups (mostly from 'my' camp-out side, I've been told, unfortunately) and a very poisonous atmosphere created. I was afraid for those kids. It all seemed to work out okay though, as security got most out easily.

so you paid all this money for EE tix when you could just sign up to optus prepaid and go to yessesssions.com.au and you could have won free tix. They're also doing it for Pink. get onto it. its gonna be sick
lady_salsa From: lady_salsa Date: February 26th, 2009 11:01 am (UTC) (www)
Well one, I'm not an Optus customer. And two, only kids under 18 were eligable. Over 18 Optus customers didn't get informed/a chance to enter.
